STRATHCONA ECO HOUSE

10558 - 78 Avenue NW,     Edmonton,    AB.

Situated in the historical Strathcona neighborhhod, the Strathcona Eco House strived to achieve Zero Carbon. With no connection to the grid, the building has geothermal heating - achieved through 4 geothermal wells on site. The adequately insulated walls provide for less heat lost during cold winter months - or gained during hot summer days. The building layout allows for cooling through ample ventilation. Placement of balconies allow for wide angle views - "expanding" occupants' outdoor space.  There is grey water collection for utilization in bathrooms. The materiality - use of wood as a renewable source adds to the notion of carbon neutrality.
